3Computing Communication Convergence
- The present immense notice for convergence really
began with the popularization of internet because
World Wide Web enabled the creation of services
integrating computing, communications and data - More recently, Grid computing began to gather the
interest of researchers as the enabler of full
convergence for all kinds of resources including
computing and networking devices

4What Is Grid Computing?
- The definition of Grid is scattered until now,
but it will converge to the achievement of the
orchestrated scalable entity for heterogeneous
networked resources - The present recognition for the concept of Grid
includes utility computing, on-demand computing,
internet computing, network computing, enterprise
resource integration, global load balancing, and
so on. - Grid computing mainly means
- to reduce total cost of ownership(TCO)
- to aggregate and improve efficiency of computing,
data, and storage resource - to enable the creation of virtual organizations
for applications and data sharing
5The importance of Grid in Korea
- The importance of Grid in Korea is larger than
other countries possessing strong
telecommunication industry - In case of Korea, computing industry is
relatively weaker than telecommunication industry - Grid can be the stepping stone for strengthening
Korean computing industry based on current IT
capability of Korea through computing and
communication convergence services

6Worldwide Grid Spending
- After year 2006, the popularization of Grid
computing is expected to be accelerated - Especially, the financial services and ERP
services is expected to take major parts in the
expense

17Requirements Of Potential Grid Adopters
- Following Business benefits of Grid computing
have been presented by Grid service providers - Accelerate time to results
- Enable collaboration and promote operational
flexibility - Efficiently scale to meet variable business
demands - Increases productivity
- Leverage existing capital investments
- However, potential Grid adopters needs more
- Enlarging technological feasibility of the Grid
to guarantee quality of service with cost
efficiency - Providing clear economical advantages and vivid
value creation to the Grid adopters, compared to
possible alternatives - Securing the Grid system to ensure safe and
stable trusted collaboration of various resource
owners and service users.
18Hurdles in Grid Business Promotion
- Current Grid players need to pursue the service
discovery and development, satisfying the
requirements of potential stakeholders in all IT
areas - The necessity of ubiquitous Grid adoption is
increasing, but we need more efforts for
satisfying requirements of potential Grid
adopters - Easing customer/industry specific application
development, deployment, management and
maintenance - Enabling global resource orchestration with open
standard - Customer-centered Grid service policy and SLA
- Securing resource sharing and transaction
-
19Collaborative Service Creation of Grid Business
- Collaborative value creation with business
players and potential customers should be
processed in developing new Grid business models
and Grid services - The ubiquitous success of Grid depends on the
activities for eliciting, validating and
harmonizing the requirements of potential Grid
adopters - We need to enlarge participants of Business Grid
activities - Enterprises, government agencies and academic
institutes in all over the IT sectors need to
cooperate and compete
20Vision of Business Grid

BcN (Broadband Convergence Network) aims to
achieve 50100Mbps broadband networks supporting
IPv6 with guaranteed quality and security. It
pursues the interoperable fixed-mobile
convergence network integrating voice, data and
broadcasting services.
