- Naturally occurring mineral that separates into
strong, very fine fibers - Extremely durable
- Very heat resistant
- Great construction material
4Properties of Asbestos
- Breaks into microscopic fibers
- Easily inhaled
- Penetrates, remains in body for many years
- Can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and
asbestosis 20-40 years after exposure - Since 1900, over 30 million tons of asbestos were
put in place
