Title: The Smart Choice in Waste Oil Heating Equipment
1The Smart Choice in Waste Oil Heating Equipment
2Why Firelake ?Waste Oil Equipment
- Lets Look at basic differences that make, and
keep, more money with your business.
3Who is Firelake?
Firelake Waste Oil Heaters and Boilers are
designed from the ground up to burn waste oil and
other petroleum based products. Started by
Shenandoah Manufacturing Co. Inc. in September
1989, our waste oil heaters and boilers have
become the premier waste oil heating equipment in
the industry. Firelake Mfg. LLC has been a
family owned business since its inception. The
Dassel, MN facility has been a metal fabricator
since the early 1950's. In October 2002,
Firelake Mfg. LLC obtained the Shenandoah waste
oil heater and boiler lines. Many of the same
employees from Shenandoah Manufacturing Co. Inc.
are with Firelake Mfg. LLC to continue to lead
the industry with new technology and
products. We will continue to grow our heater
and boiler product lines with the Shenandoah
tradition of innovative designs, technology and
exceptional customer service.

6Firelake Waste Oil Heaters
- The Firelake Horizon Model, Recognized Best Waste
Oil Heat Exchanger - Quickest cleaning heater in industry (15 minutes)
- Two to four hours labor is typical for
competitive single and multi-tube heater designs - Horizons patented heat exchanger can allow
better heat transfer than multi-tube heaters. The
Horizons ash periodically falls to the bottom of
the chamber, freeing transfer surface, while the
competitions tubes progressively fill with ash. -
- Horizons industry leading heat transfer ability
is due to the patented air flow where cooling air
is forced onto the hottest part of the fire
chamber first. -
- Versatile stack outlet options
- Stainless steel heat exchanger option
- Beware of inconsistent advertising, Firelakes
Btu Input equals or exceeds the heater model. - Reznor advertises two heater sizes with BTU/hr
inputs of 225,000 325,000. Their actual
catalog specifications list them at only 200,000
and 280,000 BTU/hr. - EnergyLogic states their Model 340 at 2.25
gallons per hour and 340,000 btu/hr input. By
calculation, the industry standard of 140,000
btu/gal x 2.25 gph is equal to only 315,000
btu/hr. This leaves them 25,000 BTU short of
actual. - The Lanair Model 300D states 1.83 gallons per
hour and 300,000 btu input. By industry standard,
140,000 btu/gal x 1.83 gph is equal to only
256,000 btu/hr, 44,000 btu short. - Omni shows their Model 150 at 1.0 gallon per hour
and 150,000 btu input. By industry standard,
140,000 btu/hr x 10. gph is equal to
only140,000 btu/hr, thus 10,000 btu short. - Clean Burn shows 170,000 btu/hr at 1.15 gph in
their model 1750. A rate of 1.15 gph at 140,000
btu/gallon is only 161,000 btu/hr. They also
show 250,000 btu/hr at 1.7 gph in their model
2501. A rate of 1.7 gph at 140,000 btu/gallon
is only 238,000 btu/hr. Averages about 10,000
btu short.
7Firelake Waste Oil Pumps
- Firelake uses field proven Suntec A body and J
body waste oil pumps - Suntec is the proven leader in reliability, but
not all competitors use Suntec pumps. Firelake
has tested many pump manufacturers by circulating
metal shavings through them in controlled
multiple pump tests. Suntec always was the last
pump standing. The others leaked air or oil. - Firelake offers pressure regulated oil flow
(Standard Model A or J) as well as viscosity
compensating metering pump systems (Model CDVF A
or J). - Firelakes metering pumps are versatile unlike
the fixed speed pumps competitors sell. With a
competitors fixed speed pump there is no
adjustment for piping head or suction loss, and a
special pump is needed for every model of heater.
Fixed speed pumps are limited in distance from
the burner to the oil tank. - Firelakes metering system is adjustable, and
only one model is needed for all the heater
sizes. This reduces confusion over parts and
eliminates potential mismatching of equipment.
Firelakes metering system can work in a wider
variety of applications. Firelake pumps prime
oil lines as much as 5 to 9 times faster, why sit
around and wait an hour for oil to get to the
burner after service or installation?
8Cheaper is Not Always Better or Less Cost
- Initial sale of 6,000 for Firelake 5,000 for
Competition. - A labor rate of 40/hr. Assuming competition
needs 3 cleanings/season at 2 hrs/cleaning
Firelake needs 1 cleaning/season at 0.33
hrs/cleaning. Chart shows a 10 year heater life.
- Over the 10 years Firelake will return your
original 1,000 difference and save you another
1,268 - based on 10th year figures of 7,400 - 6132
1,268. - After the 10th year Firelake provides a lifetime
10 warranty, the competition stops at 10 years.
9Why Firelake gets you more heat in the long run
than multiple tube heat exchangers
10The Firelake Horizon Heater
- Firelake patented heaters have technology that
Eliminates the need for deflectors, puts the
blower air at the hottest section of the chamber
first, and has chimney connections at either side
for convenience and prevention of water running
into the chamber. - Firelakes patented Horizon model creates a
cleaning action that releases ash from the
interior of the fire chamber, allowing it to fall
to the bottom of the chamber. The Firelake
patent reads the burner assembly imparts a
swirl to the combustion gases which increases the
efficiency of heat transfer as well as reduces
the tendency of ash to form on the upper surface
of the combustion chamber. - Competitors multiple tube designs collect ash on
all 360 degrees of the interior of the tubes.
Efficiency deteriorates with time since the ash
adheres and remains in place until it is
physically removed.
11The Firelake Horizon Heater
- Part of the Horizons success is due to the air
flow. The Horizons patent reads A blower
supplies ambient air which flows into the upper
air space, flows along the hottest part of the
combustion chamber and then, upon reaching the
flue gas end of the combustion chamber, reverses
direction and travels back along the lower air
space before being exhausted into the ambient
air. - The blower air contacts the hottest part of heat
exchanger first for maximum heat transfer. - Hinged burner access door for service and
cleaning. - Directional hot air outlet
- Either side chimney connection
- Impact resistant mill-applied painted steel
surfaces.

14 Firelake-Columbia Boilers
- Firelake uses steel sheet construction. Unlike
cast boilers you never need to worry about stress
failures from cool return water. - Firelake has accessible surfaces to remove ash.
Cast boilers have corners, grooves to collect ash
and promote inefficient heating and corrosive
conditions. -
- Unlike competitive boilers with only a coiled
pipe to heat water, all Firelake boilers have a
water jacket with reserve hot water. This
reserve supply feature will prevent cold water
during high demand periods. -
- Firelake is always pressure vessel stamped,
tested, and ASME certified. -
- Firelake boilers are standard with separate
jacket water and potable water use. - Steam or hot water controls available.
- Water tube design and multiple access doors allow
easiest cleaning. Firelake has no flue tubes
carrying condensable flue gas prone to hidden
internal corrosion. -
- Large swing door for burner mounting and chamber
cleaning. - Boiler manufacturing experience from 1936.

15Firelake is Meeting Expectations
- Maguire's Ford (Hershey, Pennsylvania)Maguire
s Ford, serving Central Pennsylvania since 1935,
first used Firelake's multi-oil heaters in their
Duncannon dealership. They were so happy with the
results that they recently decided to install
three Firelake heaters in their newer Hershey
location. The three heaters in Hershey are used
to heat the entire 12,800 sq. ft. shop area.
According to Service Manager, Rob Mathias, the
heaters handle very well in an area that has 22
role-up doors. The Horizon heaters are a big
improvement over the natural gas heat they had
used before. We get a constant source of heat
rather than intermitted highs and lows, making
the shop more comfortable. And we dont have to
back off the heat in evenings to save money,
says Mathias. The guys wouldnt want to part
with it.According to Mathias they have
practically paid for themselves in less than a
year. He completely recommends the Firelake
products saying, You wont regret making this
decision.
