  • February 4, 2003 NETTC Annual Membership Meeting
    at Northeast State Community College. Some 42
    attended the morning 800 a.m. event. The program
    was provided by Sprint representative Jim
    Brackens, Dave Marshall, Jim Flannagen and Jon
    Olson. They addressed such topics as regional
    infrastructure, cost competitiveness, commitment
    to the community and a look at the future.

  • March 12, 2003 The Future of Manufacturing held
    at MeadowView Conference Center. Some 64 attended
    the lunch time meeting. The program was presented
    by Dr. Thomas Duesterberg, President and CEO of
    the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI. Dr. Duesterberg
    is an internationally recognized expert on
    manufacturing trends and addressed such topics as
    2003 Economic Outlook, Reality of Foreign
    Competition and the Role of Technology. Sponsors
    were NETTC, KEDP and Times-News.

  • April 10, 2003 How Technology has Driven the
    Motor Sports Industry held at the Bristol Motor
    Speedway. Some 40 attended the event. Wayne
    Estes, VP Communications and Events at the
    Speedway and Tim Anderson, RacePac were the
    speakers for the event.

  • April 14, 2003 2003TechStar Awards held at the
    MeadowView Conference Center in Kingsport, TN. 26
    attended the awards. There were 46 entries in 7
    categories from 23 nominations. Cosponsored with
    Kingsport Economic Development Partnership. These
    awards recognize technology in the workplace and
    its unique uses.

  • April 24, 2003 Small Business Administration,
    Historically Underutilized Business Zone
    (HUBZone) held at Northeast State Community
    College Library. The meeting was cosponsored by a
    number of organizations and key organizer was the
    Kiwanis Club of Kingsport Civic Affairs and
    Partners Committee. Ms Sandra Jackson, Small
    Business Administration HUBZone representative
    for TN was the presenter. Ms Jackson outlined the
    HUBZone program and explained how participation
    in the HUBZone contracting process may be
    advantageous.

  • April 25, 2003 Student Business Plan
    Competition for Tennessees college and
    university students. There were 4 grand divisions
    of the state that would be selected for an award
    (West, Middle, East and Northeast). Winners
    received 3,000 in each grand division. This was
    a project of the Tennessee Technology Development
    Corporation to which the Council is affiliated.
    The Council provided the judges and coordination
    for the Northeast division.

  • May 13, 2003 Open House/Office Warming at the
    new location of NETTC. Some 30 attended the
    event. The membership was very generous with
    their office supplies and everything from post-it
    notes to a dictionary was received. The
    networking opportunities were invaluable to our
    members.

  • June 5, 2003 802.1x Wireless Networking and
    Security held at the Bristol Chamber of
    Commerce. 38 attended the tech brief. Rodger
    Johnson with the Department of Defense was the
    speaker and covered an overview of 802.1x
    wireless networks and the security associated
    with this technology.

  • July 1, 2003 Real Word Users for Digital Media
    Streaming held at Northeast State Community
    College Library. 21 attended the event. Tim
    Siglin, founder of Transitions. Inc. was the
    speaker for the event. The presentation detailed
    the vertical markets most likely to benefit from
    the use of streaming video, provided
    recommendations for the inclusion of digital
    media into business workflow and provided
    examples of tools designed to index, search and
    re-use video content to benefit employees and
    customers.

  • August 12, 2003 21st Century Military Technology
    and the Role it Plays in Todays World held at
    the Carnegie Hotel Ballroom, Johnson City, TN. 47
    attended the presentation. The event was
    sponsored by NETTC and ETSU Military Science
    Department at ETSU. The presenters were Chief
    Warrant Officer Steve Sanders who serves as
    Comanche Special Projects Officer and Lieutenant
    Colonel (Retired) Patrick Sheahan, Army Aviation
    Special Projects for the Comanche Program both
    from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
    Networking and positive exposure of the Council
    to the region was exceptional due to this event.

  • September 16-17, 2003 Winning With Technology,
    Expo 03 held in Knoxville, TN and the three
    Councils, (Chattanooga, Knoxville and NETTC)
    joined together to sponsor this event. Quality
    conference with low attendance.

  • October 9, 2003 A Global Perspective on Where
    Technology is Going and How Northeast Tennessee
    Can Benefit held at MeadowView Conference Center
    in Kingsport, TN. 51 attended the presentation.
    The presenter was Dr. John Temple, an
    international speaker and business consultant who
    has been a director of numerous companies
    including Chairman of Saratoga Software. Most of
    his career has been spent in international
    companies or building a multinational business in
    SE Asia.

  • November 10, 2003 Redesigning the Regional
    Economy/Shaping Our Future in health, technology
    and tourism held at the Grove Park Inn,
    Asheville, NC. The one day event was lead by Ed
    Barlow, dynamic futurist, and planned by a group
    of regional organizations including Western NC,
    Northeast TN and Southwest VA. Conference allowed
    participants to share best practices and develop
    a vision for improving the TN-NC-VA areas
    business climate and identified next steps for
    reaching its economic potential.

  • November 12, 2003 IPv6 The Protocol that Will
    Save the Internet held at Northeast State
    Community College Library, Blountville, TN. The
    tech brief covered an overview of IPv6 and
    included the internet problems it was created to
    solve basic details of the protocol itself and
    the new applications it will enable. The current
    state of global IPv6 deployment and details on
    deploying IPv6 were also discussed. This was
    cosponsored by Juniper Networks and NETTC.

    Alliance Meeting in Nashville. All Tennessee
    Councils attended the meeting and reported on
    each councils activities, etc.
  • Visited with East TN Council Executive Director
    in Oak Ridge
  • NETTC Executive Director was a presenter at
    Tennessee Means Technology Day on the Hill in
    Nashville, TN where each Council Executive
    Director presented an overview of their of the
    Council.
  • East Tennessee, Chattanooga and Northeast
    Tennessee Councils jointly sponsored Winning
    with Technology- Expo03 in Knoxville.
