Title: Maglevs Magnetically leviated trains

1
Maglevs (Magnetically leviated trains)
  • The principal of a Magnet train is that floats on
a magnetic field and is propelled by a linear
induction motor. A maglev train floats about 10mm
above the guidway on a magnetic field. It is
propelled by the guidway itself rather than an
onboard engine by changing magnetic fields.
  • Advantages?
  • Maintenance
  • No friction since maglev train floats
  • Less noise, no wheel noise
  • - Speed, could get up to 300 km/h in only 5km
  • Disadvantages?
  • More costly than conventional steel railways
  • Lack with existing infrastructure

Countries who tested the maglev trains are the
USA, Japan and Germany. In Japan they set a speed
record of 550km/h (344mph) in early 1998. A
Japanese railroad will invest US3.1 billion to
develop high-speed magnetic trains over the next
decade
