Leadership
The FOUNDATION of an organization is its
Leadership. One of the greatest assets we have
are the RR leaders and their dedication to
working with boys. Commander Barnes once noted
that he never imagined the impact Royal Rangers
would have on Men and Women

Steps in Starting an Outpost
21
  • There are several key steps to starting a
successful Royal Rangers outpost in your church.
    They include
  • Enlisting support of key people in your church
  • Enlisting leaders
  • Obtaining the necessary finances
  • Making arrangements for meetings
  • Establishing a relationship with the district and
national Royal Rangers offices through chartering

22
Step 1 Enlist Support of Key People in your
Church
22
  • There are several key people or groups of people
  • Pastor
  • The church
  • HonorBound
  • Outpost Council

23
Enlist Support of Key People in Your Church
23
  • The Pastor
  • The pastor is the key to the success of the Royal
    Rangers ministry in any church.
  • He will provide support, make announcements, and
help keep the ministry before the people.

24
The Church
24
  • As you talk to people and groups in the church
about the Royal Rangers program, ask first for
their prayer support. Then ask for their help!
  • You will have to spend time educating the people
in the church about the program.

25
HonorBound
25
  • Establish a relationship with HonorBound
provide them updates about the ministry.
  • Your district and sectional leadership should be
utilized to help with the promotion and
introduction of Royal Rangers to your church.

26
Outpost Council
26
  • The Outpost Council consists of three to five men
or women who, who along with the pastor and
senior commander, have the basic responsibilities
of the administration of the Royal Rangers
    ministry within their church.

27
Outpost Council
27
  • They provide support to the commanders.
  • The major responsibilities of the Outpost Council
    are
  • Enlisting commanders and assistants
  • Securing an adequate meeting place
  • Securing necessary finances and equipment
  • Reviewing and recognizing boys who advance

28
Step 2 Enlisting Leaders
28
  • The success of the Royal Rangers outpost will
depend heavily on the type and commitment of its
    commanders.
  • These men and women (women are allowed to work as
Ranger Kids commanders) should have a love of
boys and be willing to work with them on a weekly
    basis.

29
Enlisting Leaders
29
  • It is critical that you rely on the Holy Spirits
    wisdom when appointing new commanders.
  • Remember, the commander will be the one sharing
    the gospel with the boys.
  • The pastor should have the final say in who
serves as a Royal Rangers commander.

30
Senior Commander
30
  • The senior commander is key to the success of the
    Royal Rangers outpost.
  • He must have a vision for Royal Rangers.
  • He must accept Royal Rangers as his ministry to
    the church.
  • As the champion of the ministry, he must have
    enthusiasm and commitment.

31
Commanders
31
  • Each age group will need a commander
  • Larger age groups will need one or more
    lieutenant commanders.
  • One pool of prospects to consider for commanders
and lieutenant commanders are the parents of your
    boys.

32
Step 3 Obtaining Finances
32
  • Running an outpost is not cheap.
  • The pastor and church board will want to know
estimated expenses and sources of income so they
    can plan accordingly.
  • The plan you create for starting the outpost will
    need to include a budget.

33
Leaders Boys Materials
33
  • The weekly meetings are critical to the success
of a Royal Rangers ministry in your church.
  • Written curricula is contained in the Leaders
    Guides.
  • Boys will need their age-specific handbook.

34
Uniform
34
  • Yes, uniforms are expensive.
  • One of the most important aspects of providing
uniforms for the boy is its a status equalizer.
  • Poor kids and rich kids look the same.
  • Uniforms aid in discipline and promotion of the
    ministry.

35
Chartering
35
  • Remember to budget your chartering fees. You will
    need to charter
  • Each commander
  • Outpost Council
  • Every boy in your outpost

36
Financial Support
36
  • Many churches budget a certain amount for each
    ministry.
  • Have at least one fundraiser a year.
  • Fundraisers can provide significant funds.
  • Dont underestimate the giving potential of your
    HonorBound men.
  • Have the boys pay weekly dues

37
Step 4 Make Meeting Arrangements
37
  • Classrooms will be available during mid-week or
    family night services.
  • Secure a room with smaller table and chairs for
the Ranger Kids, and rooms with larger tables and
    chairs for the older boys.
  • Do your best to separate Ranger Kids from the old
    boys.

38
Frequency and Length of Meeting
38
  • Typically the mid-week service lasts 1 to 1½
    hours.
  • The Royal Rangers 10-point meeting plan is based
on 1½ hours, but it can be done in as little as 1
    hour if necessary.
  • The meetings typically occur on a weekly basis.
  • Start and end on time.

39
Step 5 Charter your Outpost
39
  • Chartering is the annual process of registering
your outpost with your district and the national
    office.
  • Charter fees typically help support the Royal
Rangers ministry in your district and they
support the national Royal Rangers ministry.
  • Every boy and leader in Royal Rangers should
    charter each year.

40
Chartering Requirements
40
  • A minimum of five boys
  • An Outpost Council that consists of at least
    three men
  • A qualified commander for each age group
  • A registration fee for each boy and adult
    (including the Outpost Council)
