Three factors

Our use of resources

• Water
• 39,090 gallons to manufacture a car and four
  tires
• 9.3 gallons to process a can of fruit
• The average person uses 100 gallons per day.
• Solid Waste
• About three billion batteries are sold annually
  in the U.S. averaging about 32 per family or ten
  per person.
• In 2000, the per capita generation of waste was
  4.5 pounds per person per data total waste
  generation in the US was 232 million tons
• Air Pollution
• Cars, SUVs and light trucks in the US emit more
  than 300 million tons of carbon a year1/3 of the
  US emissions of CO2

• My total footprint was 19 acres, compared to 24
  acres average for people who live in the US
• If everyone lived like me, we would need 4.3
  planets

The more you learn

• The more depressed you can get
• The more motivated you can get.
• The more you understand that you have an impact
  on a finite set of resources AND that there are
  simple things you can do to reduce that impact
