The contemporary Latvian menu
  • On an average day Latvians usually have a
    moderate breakfast coffee or tea, sandwiches,
    milk, a boiled egg or omelette. Lunch in Latvia
    is eaten between midday and three oclock. People
    usually eat hot lunch which consists of fried
    meat or fish, potatoes, rice, buckwheat and a
    fresh salad. Some people eat soup as well. Many
    different kind of desserts are eaten which are
    made of dairy products and fruit.
  • At lunch time Latvians drink fruit juices,
    cultured milk (kefirs), milk, tea or coffee.
  • On arriving home from work, a second lunch or
    supper, is made. It consists of hot meals, soups,
    milk soups, etc.

    berries prepared in oak barrels. Over time,
    experts from many countries have given it more
    than 30 awards at international fairs.

  • There is nothing more enjoyable than the fresh
    taste of herbal tea! It is the combination of
    boiling water, dried fruit, flower and herb.
    Traditionally in Latvia herbal teas are made of
    lime-blossoms, mint, St Jonhs wort, camomile,
    calendula and other herbs. Sugar or honey can be
    added to taste.
