  • Course Description Chemistry is the study of
    matter, focusing on composition, structure,
properties, and reactions. Students will be
learning the Periodic Table of Elements, as well
as chemical bonds. Physics is the study of
matter and energy and the interactions between
the two through forces and motion. Forces cause
changes in motion. The laws of physics allow
these movements to be calculated, which students
will work with on paper and in the course of lab
    manipulatives.

Biology
  • Science Fair
  • Summit Conference Science Fair is Wednesday,
March 10, 2010. It is at Gainesville this year.
  • Students will need to have the research paper for
their science fair project turned in by Friday,
Dec. 18, 2009. The experiment will be completed
either at home any time, or in the classroom in
    January and February.

  • Course Description Biology is the study of life
and the different ways that organisms grow,
    survive, and reproduce. Topics include
    microbiology, cells, genetics, evolution,
bioethics, and ecology, for example. Activities
include experiments, problem solving, and paper
writing. The concepts of the scientific method
are taught providing students with an
understanding of all of the elements of a science
fair. A science fair project for the spring
    semester is required.

  • Anatomy Physiology
  • Course Description Students will study Anatomy
and Physiology of the human body. Anatomy and
Physiology is a college preparatory class. The
concepts of the scientific method are taught
providing students with an understanding of all
of the elements of a science fair. A science
fair project is required. This class will cover
anatomical terms, tissues, and the integumentary,
    skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory,
    circulatory, endocrine, urogenital, and nervous
systems. A cat dissection is done to help
investigate and relate the structure to its
function as it correlates to the human body.

Life Science
  • This is a sophomore required science class.
Higher academic achieving students may attain
    permission to take Chemistry instead.
  • Study Skills Suggestions

Chemistry
  • Students will learn principles of chemistry in a
variety of ways including many hands on
    activities posters, books, Chemis-tree, etc.

12
  • Course Description Chemistry is the study of
matter. Topics include atoms, periodic law,
    bonding, chemical formulas, chemical equations,
gas laws, solutions, and acids and bases.
Emphasis is placed on experimenting and problem
    solving.

13
Zoology
  • Course Description Zoology is the study of
animals and related topics. Emphasis is placed on
    classification, detailed descriptions, and
identification. Students will be using a variety
of performance events such as posters in addition
to regular classroom work. There will be many
    dissections, as well.

14
Physics
  • Course Description The physics class will cover
the study of matter and forces that affect it.
Topics include motion, forces, momentum, waves,
    light, electricity, and magnetism.
    Problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills,
and experiments are emphasized. Knowledge of
    algebra and trigonometry are required.

Science Class Rules
  • Respect (oneself, classmates, teachers/adults)
  • Citizenship (You are an integral part of this
school community and will act accordingly.)
  • Preparedness (You will be prepared EVERY day for
    classwhich means assignments completed, content
studied, materials with you like PENCIL, PAPER,
    AND TEXTBOOK)
  • Participation (You will participate
whole-heartedly in class without disrupting it.)

Science Class Rules Continued
  • Raise your hand to speak during class.
  • In your seat and no talking when the tardy bell
    rings.
  • No food or drink is allowed in a science
    classroom.
  • No personal hygiene in class. (Such as hair
