  • Background
  • Homare Ikeda was born in Japan, on Yoron Island
where his family still lives and where he visits
    frequently.
  • He came to the United States when he was 24,
received his Bachelor and Masters degree in fine
art at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
  • Homare considers himself primarily as a painter,
but also creates monotypes to which he has
    received abundant critical praise.
  • His work is organic and nature oriented. He
acknowledges that he works out of an Asian
tradition- and credits his mothers richly
colored silk weavings as an early artistic
influence, but resists being classified as a
    Japanese artist.
