  • Rosalind Elsie Franklin
  • Born in London on July 25, 1920
  • Daughter of well-to-do Jewish parents
  • Diagnosed with cancer in Autumn of 1956
  • Died on April 16, 1958 at age 37.

Education
  • Attended St. Pauls Girls School
  • Then studied at Cambridge University in 1938
  • Graduated in 1941
  • At 22 gave up fellowship to take 1st position as
    a physical chemist at the British Coal
    Utilization Research Association
  • At age 26 received her PhD from Cambridge.

Lifes work
  • Started work on x-ray diffraction in a lab in
    Paris
  • Asked to study living cells at Kings College with
    other scientists in 1951
  • Made advances in x-ray diffraction by engineering
    better equipment
  • Became the head of a research group at Birkbeck
    College in London and turned attentions to viruses

Lifes work continued
  • Worked for two more years after she was diagnosed
    with cancer.
