- Sonoma State University
- Disability Services for Students
2Degree Requirements
- Three types of degrees
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
- Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.)
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
3Degree Requirements
- Minimum of 120 - 132 units
- Graduation in 4 years minimum of 15.5 units per
semester - General Education (GE) 51 units
- 42 lower division (100-299)
- 9 upper division (300-499)
- (Upper division classes should be taken the
semester you complete 60 or more units)
4How do I reach the required number of units?
- General Education 51 units of coursework which
gives students broad perspective and knowledge - Major Through a concentration of studies in a
particular major, students focus in depth upon a
specified field of study (i.e., Psychology, Art,
Math). 120 132 units - Electives or Minor In addition to required GE
and Major courses, students must choose
coursework to complete the minimum number of
units required for graduation. (This could
include your minor)
5Where do my units come from?
6How do remediation courses relate to my
graduation requirements?
- If you are placed below GE English (A2) or GE
Math (B4), you must complete the appropriate
remediation course(s) during your first year at
SSU - Remediation courses such as Math 035 or 045, and
English 099, do not count towards graduation or
your GPA, but do count towards being a full time
student
7Remedial Coursework Math 35/45 and English 99
- Complete the next sequence (if needed) in the
upcoming semester - Find out test dates and Register online by due
date
851 Unit GE Pattern(for students entering SSU

graduation requirements (Area B). Science labs
are identified by the pound symbol () - CS 101 does not fulfill the lab science

20More Things to Keep in Mind
- Complete one Ethnic Studies course prior to
graduation. - ( ) indicates an Ethnic studies course
- Ethnic studies is not the same category as
E-Integrated Person!
21Considerations when developing your schedule
- How many hours a week do you plan to work?
- Do you have commitments such as athletic
practices or other obligations? - Are the courses you selected lower division
(numbered 100-299)? - Are there any prerequisites for the courses you
have selected? - Are there any GE courses that are required for
your major/minor?
22Preparing for Registration What things should I
be considering?
- Have I declared a major?
- If so, have I called/visited the major department
to identify and meet with my major advisor? - If not declared, have I met with a DSS or ACE
advisor?
23What other classes should I take?
- Refer to the 51-Unit GE Identification form
- (Transfer students use 48-Unit GE Identification
form) - Check the classes/areas you are currently taking
(e.g., PSY 250 Area D-1) - Take classes that sound interesting
- What is required for your major
- Talk with your advisor
- View the 4-year plans for your major
24Getting Ready for Registration
- How to View Your Registration Time
- First obtain your UserID and Password.
- Login to view the Student Services Homepage
- Check enrollment date and time
- Check for holds

30Remember to Check for Holds
Some types of holds can prevent you from
registering for classes!
31The following holds will prevent you from
registeringContact the appropriate department
to clear your hold.
32The Following Holds will NOT Prevent You From
Registering
- EPT (English Placement Test)
- Entry Level Math Exam
- Solomon Restriction
- Contact Admissions Records (664-2778) to learn
about your Hold
33Search for Classes

junior standing (i.e., 60 semester units,) but
NOT before.
40Searching for GE in a Particular Area (e.g. D1,
C4, A2)
- Go to Class Search
- Enter Term

will be displayed as an error message - Fix errors
- Review final schedule
- Print final schedule
47Now what?
