What is a category?
  • A category is a keyword or phrase that helps you
    keep track of items (item An item is the basic
    element that holds information in Outlook
    (similar to a file in other programs). Items
    include e-mail messages, appointments, contacts,
    tasks, journal entries, notes, posted items, and
    documents.) so you can easily find, sort, filter,
    or group them.

What is a category?
  • Every item in the MS1 and MS2 Class Schedule has
    particular categories assigned to it based on
    class year, course and session type.
  • EXAMPLE CATEGORIES
  • MS1 Lecture
  • MS2 Pharmacology

Adding Categories
  • Categories must be added to Master Category List
    in your Outlook.
  • Categories must exactly match the categories used
    in the shared calendar.

  • Click on any item in your Calendar to select it.
  • Dont open the item, just highlight it by
    clicking.
  • On the Edit menu Click Categories.

  • In the New category box, type a name for the
    category, and then click Add.
  • Click OK twice when finished adding categories.

Adding Lists of Categories
  • You can add a list of categories all at once.
  • Items on the list must be separated by commas.
  • ADD ALL SCHEDULE CATEGORIES
  • Open schedule_masterlist.txt
  • Select All (Ctrl-A)
  • Copy (Ctrl-C)
  • In the New category box Paste (Ctrl-V)
  • You should see the list of categories separated
    by commas
  • Click Add.
  • Click OK twice when finished adding categories.

Using Categories
  • You can use categories to filter the view of the
    calendar to see (and print) only items in
    particular categories.
  • Example Find and print a list of Biochemistry
    lectures and exams for Fall 2006.

  • Open the shared calendar in a new window.
  • Right click on calendar name
  • Choose Open in New Window

  • Click Categories button.

  • You can select as many or as few as necessary.
  • Click OK three times.

  • Printing to .pdf is a great way to share the
    schedule with your faculty and staff.
  • Have you tried Calendar Details? Its great for
    making a list of your courses events.
