founded in 1993 at "Valahia" University, by Prof.
Dr. Eng. Florin Tanasescu, Prof. Dr. Eng. Nicolae
Olariu and Prof. Dr. Eng. Emilian Zaides.

23
Some Main Activities and Priorities in Training
and Research
24
Some Main Activities and Priorities in Training
and Research
  • II. Applied Electronics Department - Microsystems
    and Intelligent Sensors -
  • The major thrust of todays research effort is to
make sensors smaller and smarter than they are
now. To define more carefully the different types
of intelligent sensors, it is necessary to
subdivide the processor (converter) and the main
processing unit. There are three levels of
    integration which define sensors systems
  • an ordinary sensor system which contains
separated parts (sensor, signal preprocessor and
    processing unit)
  • integrated sensors in one sensor system which
contains an intelligent sensor and the processing
    unit
  • a smart sensor or integrated intelligent sensor
    on a single chip.

25
Some Main Activities and Priorities in Training
and Research
  • III. Applied Electronics Department -
    Communications-
  • The main training activities in Communications
    direction are
  • improving and developing the curricula in
concordance with the market economy requirements
  • new training materials for the domains foreseen
    in the curricula
  • setting up of the new laboratories Laboratory of
Materials and Reliability, Laboratory of VLSI
Design, Laboratory of Smart and Intelligent
    Systems, Laboratory of Software Instrumentation
    in Electronics
  • training using multimedia methods and techniques
  • open distance learning
  • transfer of the knowledge and experience to the
    economic environment
  • encouraging the students autonomus work and
    creativity
  • developing an informatic system with a view to
increase the results of the scientific research
  • intensifying the co-operation with the National
Institutes of Research and the involving of the
teaching staff from the faculty in international
    co-operating programmes.

The integration and the importance of the
Electrical Engineering Faculty
  • The students who have decided to study an area of
the Electrical Engineering find that the
    Electrical Engineering Faculty from Valahia
University Targoviste is able to offer a
favorable and stimulating framework that help
them to fulfill their highest potential. In
parallel with the studies they have a unique
opportunity to observe the exciting struggles
involved in economic and social reform and
democratization. At the same time, they may even
be able to contribute in small but valuable ways
    to these changes.
  • The range of academic opportunities offered by
the Faculty is very large. Although much work has
been, and is being done to modernize courses,
most of the programs retain a solid foundation in
the theory relevant to each electrical
    engineering discipline.
  • The young training staff is involved in specific
research programs under the guidance of the
senior academic staff renowned for their
specialist knowledge and dedication to continuous
improvement in teaching methods. The lecturers
and the researchers could find excellent partners
for joint educational or research co-operation.
  • The Electrical Engineering Faculty is involved in
    many cooperative activities and strongly
encourage new initiatives. In addition, many
    international contacts are established with
various universities and research institutes from
    all over the world.
