Background

• The vision for SFHII began in 2004 with the
  commissioning of the Governors Health
  Information Infrastructure Advisory Board.
• The Governors Board was charged with promoting
  the adoption of electronic health records and the
  development of a Florida Health Information
  Network (FHIN).
• In 2004, numerous health care stakeholders came
  together to discuss the potential of developing
  an HIT project in South Florida.

Funding

• In the Fall of 2005, the Health Foundation of
  South Florida in collaboration with numerous
  partners submitted a proposal to AHCA to fund the
  development of the SFHII.
• In January 2006, the Foundation was awarded a 6
  month planning grant to develop the
  infrastructure of the SFHII.
• The applicants have developed a core working
  group called
• SFHII Community Partnership Working Group

Vision

• A healthcare community that maximizes its
  technological resources
• to establish and maintain
• a cost-effective, secure, and user centric health
  information infrastructure
• that allows the exchange of information between
  patients, providers, and payors.

• Establishing a governance and management
  structure that includes
• a Board of Directors, a sustainable business
  model, and a strategic action plan
• Creating a community health information exchange
  that is
• user centric and workflow oriented and accessible
  to patients
• compliant with the national and state standards
  for privacy and security.

• health information exchange to occur
• at the local, state, and national level.

• Get involved in SFHII or other local, state, and
  national efforts.
• Encourage and promote the adoption of electronic
  health records among providers.
• Educate consumers about the value of a health
  information infrastructure.
• Support the development of a health information
  exchange in our community.
