Prevention
  • Appoint Responsible Personnel as Substance Abuse
    Control Officers (SACO), Coordinators and
    Observers
  • Set up a testing program that is effective and
    does not hinder the units mission
  • It is possible to set up a program to test a few
    times a week and not disrupt the operations of a
    unit

  • Frequent unannounced random drug tests
  • Stagger the dates throughout the month
  • Vary the testing window
  • Test in small numbers more often than large
    numbers
  • Avoid testing soon after receiving materials
  • Test on Mondays and weekends

Accountability
  • Ensure all Marines are tested when they have been
    identified
  • Any absences are reported to the Commander
  • Absences have been authorized by the Company
    Commander or his/her designee
  • CO determine a collection time for Marines with
    unexcused absences IAW MCO P1700.24B
