• After battering the Mexican coastline with strong
  winds and torrential rain, Wilma moved away from
  the Yucatan Peninsula on Sunday as a Category 2
  storm.
• Traveling through the warm waters of the Gulf of
  Mexico strengthened Wilma again.

• Wilma, Floridas eighth hurricane in 15 months,
  came ashore at 630 a.m. ET near Cape Romano, 22
  miles south of Naples. FL.
• Wilma arrived as a Category 3 hurricane and
  weakened within hours into a Category 2 storm
  with winds of 105 mph.
• Wilma spawned FIVE tornadoes and dropped 25 cm
  (10 in) of rain.

• Wilma flooded large sections of Key West,
  including the airport, with 1 to 1 ½ m (3 to 5
  ft) water.
• Up to 6 million homes and businesses across the
  state experienced power outages.
• Winds with gust of over 160 km/hr (100 mi/hr)
  buffeted heavily populated Miami-Dade, Broward
  and Palm Beach counties on the Atlantic coast.

HURRICANE WILMA LOSS ESTIMATE

• Risk Management Solutions estimated that
  insurance companies will have to pay claims in a
  range of 6 billion to 10 billion for damage
  caused by Wilma in Florida.
• This estimate is based on onshore damage
  resulting from wind and a coastal storm surge,
  business interruption and increased costs for
  materials and services needed for repairs.
