2003-2004 Priorities
  • Improve website functionality
  • Continue to grow the membership database
  • Increase dues paying members to 100
  • Increase meeting attendance to 100
  • Increase use of job postings

  • Conduct a mentorship program check-up
  • Create additional marketing material
  • Establish City IABA Affiliates
  • Establish IABA Foundation 501c3

IABA Accomplishments
  • Added Online Membership and Annual Meeting
    Registration Form with credit card acceptance
    capability
  • The IABA database grew from 550 to 700 people
    participating in this career a 40 increase
  • Completed the mentoring program check-up and
    doubled the size of the mentoring program
  • Raised 42,500 in corporate sponsorships a 170
    increase over last year
  • Meeting attendance topped 100 attendees
  • City Affiliates have been established in Boston,
    Hartford, New York, Delaware Valley, DC, North
    Carolina, Atlanta, Chicago, and Ohio

IABA Accomplishments
  • While IABA membership continues to lag behind
    targets we have tremendous potential with 125
    people in our mentoring program and 120 people
    attending the annual meeting and 35 people in
    active leadership roles we are bound to beat our
    old target of 100 has we quickly climb to 250 and
    into the 300s
  • Job postings have picked up tremendously
    generating making that section of our website a
    real hot spot
  • We have it!!! Our own 501c3 the IABA Foundation
  • The Advisory Council is getting place with a late
    fall target for its first meeting. Through this
    council we will seek to change the corporate
    landscape
  • Quarterly student newsletter have been sent to
    collegians but we need to and will do more
  • We have met with some of our Black Owned
    Insurance and Consulting Firms and are in the
    process of devising a strategy to meet this goal

What have we learned
  • We can do more together
  • The mentoring program is needed, wanted, and its
    works when the mentor and mentoree actually talk
  • We will increase our membership by serving it
    better, that means understanding and meeting its
    needs
  • It is time to truly be International
  • Media is the next frontier of awareness
  • We still need additional process and procedural
    improvement to increase our effectiveness
  • Somebody ought to do something about that I am
    Somebody

Next Steps
  • 250 annual membership
  • 200 annual meeting attendance
  • 100,000 annual corporate contributions and
    20,000 annual scholarship distribution
  • Expansion of efforts in Africa, Caribbean, and
    Canada
  • Address H1B and green card issues in the
    corporate world
  • Website enhancement including a redesign,
    addition of an events page, and possibly a chat
    room
  • Develop and implement new member welcoming
    process
  • Expand IABA public relations program
  • Complete membership assessment concerning
    communication, membership value proposition,
    membership benefits, and membership needs
  • Access and implement process, controls, and
    organizational improvements
  • Develop and/or collect resources for career
    development, mentoring, advancement, exam taking,
    and collegiate support
  • Solidify City Affiliates and Advisory Council
  • Get black actuaries involved with actuarial
    organizations speaking at meetings, running for
    offices, participating on committees, section
    leaders, etc.
