European Commission
5Le Active Math - Goals of the project
LeActiveMath targets an innovative third
generation eLearning system for high school and
college or university level classrooms that can
also be used in informal contexts for self
learning. It adapts to the learner and learning
context and comprises personalization, tutorial
dialogues, open student modeling and
interactivity that is tool-supported for active
and exploratory learning.
6Le Active Math
- intelligent feedback
- tutorial dialog
- integrated interactive tools that understand the
semantics of learning objects
7Le Active Math
will be usable by a large variety of students.
However, the actual content that will be produced
in the project will be calculus for high schools
and first year university as well as college
level (mathematics and engineering). Evaluations
in classroom and homework environments will not
only help to implement blended learning but also
contribute to the results' sustainability..

- The implementation of the project is devided into
three big subprojects - We develop a technical platform, designed to
correspond with the pedagogical needs and the
goals of scientific education. Here teachers can
compose courses and exercises for their students.
Mumie also offers a unique environment for
students, where they can organize their courses,
exercises and working groups.

- In the so called Applet-Factory, teachers have
the opportunity to easily create interactive
applets. Using the Applet-Factory only requires
some very basic knowledge of programming, so
teachers can concentrate on the pedagogical
concept behind the visualization. - In order to provide content, mathematical fields
are split into single "elements" and thus
structured (e.g. motivation, definition,theorem...
). Authors can then fill these basic elements
with content.

The project intends to support the fundamental
parts of undergraduate courses in mathematics and
theoretical computer science for students in
accademic classes (e.g. bachelor and master
students) with multimedia and interactive
elements.

WebLabs is creating new ways of representing and
expressing mathematical and scientific knowledge
in European communities of young learners (10-14
years). The focus is on collaborative
construction, description and interpretation of
how things work. Our aim is to transform the web
into a medium in which European students
collaboratively construct and critique each
others' evolving knowledge and working models.

help make mathematical knowledge more accessible.
PlanetMath's content is created collaboratively
the main feature is the mathematics encyclopedia
with entries written and reviewed by members. The
entries are contributed under the terms of the
GNU Free Documentation License (FDL) in order to
preserve the rights of both the authors and

This website is a place for information,
communication and ideas. All European teachers
who are interested in mathematics and the role of
mathematics in European schools are invited to
join us! Maths teachers could also consider
joining our Community to contribute ideas and
materials as well as to share resources
contributed by other teachers.
