The American Flag

left hand corner that represent our 50 states.
  • The American flag has 13 red and white stripes
that represent our first 13 colonies.
  • The American flag is red, white, and blue to
    represent our countries colors.

7
The Bald Eagle
  • The Bald Eagle is our countries bird.
  • Bald Eagles have been on the endangered species
list due to their low population, which is why
congress passed the Bald Eagle Protection Act
which prohibits the killing or selling of these
    birds.

8
The Statue of Liberty
  • The Statue of Liberty is located on the 12-acre
Liberty Island in New York Harbor.
  • The Statue of Liberty was a gift of international
friendship from the people of France to the
people of the US. The statue was dedicated on
October 28, 1886, and was designated a National
    Monument on October 15, 1924.

9
The Liberty Bell
  • The Liberty Bell is located on Market Street and
    6th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Fun Facts about the Bell The Bell weighs about
2000 pounds. It is made of 70 copper, 25 tin,
and small amounts of lead, zinc, arsenic, gold,
    and silver.

10
Uncle Sam
  • Uncle Sam is a figure symbolizing the United
States, and is portrayed as a tall, white-haired
man with a goatee. He is often dressed in red,
white, and blue, and wears a top hat.
  • Most historians believe that Uncle Sam was named
after a man named Sam Wilson.

11
Mount Rushmore
  • Mount Rushmore is located 23 miles southwest of
Rapid City, South Dakota. Four presidents
    (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham
Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt) are carved into
    a mountain of granite.
  • The carving of Mt. Rushmore began on August 10,
1927, and spanned a length of 14 years.

12
The Washington Monument
  • The Washington Monument honors our first
president, George Washington and is located in
    our nations capital.
  • The monument was designed by Robert Mills in
1838, and rises more than 550 feet above the city
and is the largest masonry structure in the world!

13
Lincoln Memorial
  • The Lincoln Memorial is a tribute to President
Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to
    preserve during the Civil War.
  • The Lincoln Memorial is also located in our
nations capital. This memorial sends a message
    of freedom and democracy.

14
The White House
  • The White House is where our president lives
during his presidency. It is located in our
    nations capital as well.
  • The White House has 132 rooms, including 16
    family-guest rooms, 1 main kitchen, 1 diet
kitchen, 1 family kitchen, and 35 bathrooms.
  • The floor area (total of 6 floors) is
    approximately 55,000 square feet!

15
An American Soldier
  • I saved the American soldier for last because it
is in my opinion the most authentic symbol of
    what America stands for FREEDOM!
  • Without our brave American soldiers we would not
be where we are today as Americans. The price it
cost to be free is not a dollar amount at all.
    It goes way beyond that!
