  • 1993 Maharashtra Earthquake Rehabilitation
    Programme (DM plans for all the districts-first
    in the country- , awareness about earthquake
    resistant construction techniques)
  • 1996 National Capacity Building Project in
    Disaster Management (exposure visits,
    institution building- resulted in holistic
    approach to DM)
  • 1999 Orissa Cyclone - Recovery projects
    (community-based disaster preparedness, Shelter-
    resulted in conceptualization of DRM)
  • 2001 Gujarat earthquake - Relief to Recovery
    (local capacity building to avoid risk
    creation-conceptualization of DRM)
  • 2003-2007 Disaster Risk Management
  • 2004 Tsunami Recovery framework (shelter,
    ICT, DRM)

DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
  • Capacity building to institutionalize the systems
    for DRM in the Government
  • Creating an enabling environment for disaster
    prevention, prparedness and mitigation- education
    programmes, awareness creation, capacity
    building, legislative frameworks, manuals,
    standard operating procedures, etc.
  • Multi-hazard preparedness and mitigation plans
    for DRM at State, district, block, village and
    ward levels in 169 districts of 17 selected most
    hazard prone states of India and
  • Knowledge Networking on effective approaches,
    methods and tools for disaster risk management
    facilitate sharing of knowledge and best
    practices
  • DRM is the platform to launch GOI initiatives
    foreseen under the National Disaster Management
    Framework

    Committees (responsible for developing DM Plans
    and mainstreaming sub-district level activities)

    developing DM Plans)

  • At national level MHA is the Executing Agency
    with UNDP Country Office Support for
    implementation in all programme states
  • At state level, State Nodal Agency identified by
    the State Government
  • UNDP is providing
  • 1 State Project Officer to be associated with
    State Nodal Agency
  • 1 District Project Officer in each programme
    districts
  • Subject Specialists
  • At the District/Block/village level, District
    authorities with the help of other stakeholders
    would carry out the activities.
