GridPort Toolkit

• GridPort is a toolkit for the development of web
  portals that can access the Grid

GridPort Functionality

• What does GridPort do?
• Handles security and authentication for the
  portal
• Executes jobs on Grid resources for the user
• Batch jobs
• Simple command jobs (ls, mkdir, llsubmit, cat)
• Transfers files
• Provides access to Data Management

Security Authentication

• GSI security (Grid Security Infrastructure)
• Basis for most of the functionality of the
  GridPort toolkit
• Based on X.509 Certificates
• Enables remote job invocation (Globus) and SRB
  access
• Encrypts communications between the portal and
  the remote compute resource
• Provides the Authentication mechanism

Remote Job Invocation

• Globus GRAM for launching jobs on remote
  resources
• Jobs can be batchjobs or simple commands
• Remote resources can be Supercomputers, clusters,
  workstations (Anything running Globus)
• Gives developer ability to run commands/jobs for
  the portal user on a remote resource
• Hands the portal the output or a handle to the
  job
• get output/error, cancel, check status

File Transfer

• Globus GASS
• (Globus Access to Secondary Storage)
• Gridport provides a simple get and put
• Moves files to/from portal to/from remote compute
  resources

Data Management through SRB

• SDSC Storage Resource Broker
• GridPort provides Perl hooks into the SRB data
  management system
