Community Service
  • This year the Social Studies Department
introduced the idea of community service to our
students. We hope to make our students into
givers, not takers. By the time they are adults,
they will enter society as people who are willing
and able to give back to their community

Here are some examples
10
The A-STAR Program
  • A-star-Students, such as Dominique Gresham,
    Michelle Anderson, Lakeisha Stephens, Jessica
Johnson, and Alicia Reid have spent extra time
    after school tutoring younger students.

11
Helping the Elderly
  • Students, such as Amy Turner, Rochelle Robinson,
Nicole Cade, Shanevia Jackson, and Randal
Roberson worked at Nursing Homes in the area.
They read, fed, and visited with the elderly
providing them with companionship, while learning
    from their experiences.

12
Caring for Animals
  • Students such as, Leslie Cressman, Laura Hall,
Rachael Callaghan, and William Holaway, did their
community service by caring for animals. They
worked at the Animal Shelter, or hosted a petting
zoo for the children of the community

13
Mule Day
Mule Day
  • Students, such as Sheldon Drinkard, Savalus
Towns, and Jamie Aaron, helped the Chamber of
Commerce with Mule Day. They directed traffic,
collected tickets, and ran errands to insure that
visitors enjoyed Mule Day in Washington.

14
Other Community Service Projects
  • After school tutoring-high school
  • Church work-including nursery care and painting
  • Assisted Chamber of Commerce and Downtown
    Merchants
