Title: HOW DO PLANTS TRANSFER FOOD

1
HOW DO PLANTS TRANSFER FOOD
  • Mr. Miller

2
3 main parts
  • First part
  • Roots they have two main jobs
  • 1 anchor plants in place
  • 2 They take in water and other nutrients

3
Parts of a plant
  • The second part is the stems
  • They have two main jobs
  • 1 support the plant
  • 2 allow the leaves to reach the sunlight
  • Some stems store the food

4
Parts of a plant
  • The third part is the leaves
  • They have one job
  • 1 to make food for the plant

5
Inside of plants
  • There are two main parts to inside of a plant.
    The Xylem and the Phloem
  • The xylem carries water and nutrients from the
    soil to the leaves
  • The Phloem carries food from the leaves to other
    parts of the plant.

Protection of plants
  • Epidermis keeps the leaf from drying out. It
is covered with a layer of wax that keep the
    water in.
  • There are small openings in the leaves called
    stomata.
  • Stomata allow carbon dioxide into the leaf.
  • They also allow water vapor and gases out of the
    leaf.
  • They close at night to prevent water loss.

10
Stomata
11
Epidermis
12
Transpiration
  • The loss of water through the leaves

13
Photosynthesis
  • Making food in a process that uses water from the
soil, carbon dioxide from the air, and energy
    from sunlight.
  • The plant then releases oxygen into the air.
  • The chloroplast is in plant cells and makes the
    food.
  • Chlorophyll is the green pigment that absorbs
    light energy to make food.

Photosythesis
15
Producers
  • Plants are producers because they can produce or
    make their own food.

16
Consumers
  • Any organism that eats producers or other
    consumers is a consumer.
  • Consumers do not make their own food.
