after he died.

3Was the third out of eight children
There is no record of his birth, but his baptism
was recorded by the church, thus his birthday is
assumed to be the 23 of April.
What we do know about his life comes from
registrar records, court records, wills, marriage
certificates and his tombstone

Educated at Stratford Grammar School
Educated in History Rhetoric Reading
and Writing Latin
Students of the time enjoyed 2 ½ days off per week
5Married Life
Married Anne Hathaway in November of 1582
William was 18 Anne was 26
Their first child (Susanna) was born in May of
1583
Twins (Hamnet and Judith) followed in 1585
6The next 7 years of Shakespeare's life are a
mystery
Determined to be an actor, Shakespeare abandoned
his family and moved to London where we can
assume he spent most of his adult life
In 1594, Shakespeare joined The Chamberlain's
Men, a theatrical company which enjoyed the
patronage of the royal court.
He was one of the proprietors of the Globe
Theatre which was built in 1599

8Shakespeare died on April 23rd, 1616 at the age
of 52. He is buried under the old stone floor of
Holy Trinity Church. Carved on his tombstone is
the following
Good friend, for Jesus sake forbear To dig the
dust enclosed hear. Blessed be the man that
spares these stones And cursed be he that moves
my bones
9The Globe Theatre
Globe built in 1599 by the Lord Chamberlains
Men, with Shakespeare as a primary investor
Burned down in 1613 during a production of
Shakespeares Henry VIII when a cannon misfired
and a spark landed on the thatched roof
10Octagonal shape with a stage projecting into the
body of the theatre
Three levels of balconies
An open pit in the middle that accommodated the
groundlings
Only the blaconies, as well as some of the pit
and stage were covered by a thatched roof.
11Above the stage was a balcony, and the floor had
a trap door
The stage could be used to represent heaven,
earth, and hell.
All men and boy actors
The plays were performed mostly in the day, and
rarely during the hot summer months.Why???
