    Shakespeares time.
  • She was a strong ruler who was very clever and
    very popular.
  • She had an enormous wardrobe and even had a dress
that weighed 200 pounds! (She had to be carried
on a cart when she wore her heavy dresses.)

7
Life in the Shakespeares TimeEntertainment
  • Entertainment did not include Sony Playstation!
  • People sang, played musical instruments, and
    danced.

    bear baiting, and cockfights.

Yes, once a Year. People bathed once a year
whether they needed it or not!

Shakespeares Theater
  • Theater during the Elizabethan Age was very
    different than today.
  • No women performed on the stage!
  • Correct, Romeo and Juliet was performed with two
males. O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou
    Romeo?
  • Young boys would dress as women for the female
    parts.

11
Shakespeares TheaterThe architecture
  • Some theaters were round with a covered stage.
Most of the area had no roof. There goes the
    hairdo!
  • The Globe theater in London is a famous theater
where many of Shakespeares plays were performed.

12
  • Shakespeares Theater
  • The seats in the balconies cost more than the
pit, where the crowd would stand on a dirt
    floor
  • Audiences were loud and rude! People would talk
loudly, gossip, sell items, and conduct business.
