What is Voice Alarm?

• Linking of the fire detection system with a
  monitored public address system.
• Replacement of bells or sounders with a
  specifically designed loudspeaker system to
  broadcast speech/messages.
• The broadcast of clear and informative
  instructions from a message storage system.
• Live announcements from a fire officers
  microphone or paging microphone.
• A VA system will be fully BS5839 part 8 and
  EN60849 compliant.

How does it function?

• In the event of an incident the VA system is able
  to broadcast Evacuate and/or Alert messages by
  means of a latched command from the Fire Alarm
  Panel or other associated equipment.
• Phased or total evacuation can take place
  depending on requirements.
• The system at any time can be overridden by
  operation of the fire microphone or, by the
  manual alarm silence command located at the fire
  detection panel. This alarm silence is usually
  carried out by authorised personnel (i.e. Fire
  Officer).

Fire Alarm Integration

• On receipt of a fire instruction from the fire
  detection equipment the voice alarm system should
  latch. The VA system will then trigger messages.
• The link between FAP and VA equipment to be
  monitored continuously as set out in BS5839 part
  8.
• FAP to give audible and visual indication should
  link fail.
• VA rack to send Voice Alarm system status to FAP
  for monitoring purposes.
• Integration is normally achieved by one bell
  circuit per zone or input/output devices
