• Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built
  and owned by its residents.
• Owned by Linden Labs
• Opened in 2003
• Nearly 1.5 million accounts in past 60 days
• 35,000-55,000 logged in at a given time
• Virtually everything you can do in real life, you
  can do in Second Life
• Economy

• When I gave my first introduction to SL, there

• tp teleport
• sim the simulation, also known as an Island
• region like in the real world, Second Life
  consists of many regions that have their own
  name.
• rez or rezzed term used to describe the loading
  of the sl world, including landscapes, building,
  avatars, clothing, etc.
• alt account owned by someone who also has
  another account
• in world in Second Life

• avatar the digital representation of your
  virtual self
• grid the world of second life, a group of
  servers that run Second Life
• group a collection of Second Life residents
  formed for a common interest.
• landmark An inventory item that contains
  coordinates to a location in Second Life.
• Linden The company responsible for the creation
  and development of Second Life, L
• Notecard A small text file within Second Life.
  You can embed pictures, landmarks, and even
  objects inside notecards.

Example

• I tried to tp , but I couldnt get on to the sim,
  it seems to be down. I think something might be
  wrong with the grid, everything is rezzing really
  slowly in the tonight.

Some Notes on Clothing

• There are three ways to put on clothes
• When you right click on appearance
• You can also make outfit, which stores the
  combination of clothing so that you can put on
  the entire outfit later.
• With your inventory opened, you can drag and
  drop clothing on to you avatar.
• Right click on the item in your inventory and
  select wear
• If you appear naked
• In all likelihood, you are NOT naked. Your
  clothes simply have not rezzed yet. Usually,
  others can still see your clothes. On the flip
  side, sometimes you can see your clothes, but
  others cant.
