4Principle 1 Remember the Turtle
- If you want to make any progress, youve got to
stick your neck out!
5The E-mail that Started it All
6A Quick Process
- Software Demo January 2005
- Presentation to Banner Steering February 2005
- Purchased March 2005
- Went live on Version 1.x
7Keys to our rapid adoption
- Already had a good relationship with Evisions
- Promised to alleviate local desktop issues caused
by previous reporting system (MS Access) - Finance staff were strong supporters
- I said that District IS would take over
developing reports for the campuses
8Principle 2 Everything Needs A Home
9The Reporting Central Website
- Simple website using FrontPage (R.I.P.)
- Based off the Project template
- Finished in less than a week
- Internal network
- Documentation about Argos, Banner Tables and
Views, Training materials, Schedule, Sign-up - Reporting Central

15Principle 3 Cast A Wide Net
- It takes 250 tons of ore to find a rough diamond
large enough and fine enough to cut into a
1-carat gemstone.
16Training for All
- We developed two 2-hour training classes an
End Users class and a Power Users class - Prerequisite for the End Users class was Banner
Navigation - Power Users Class open to anyone who completed
the End Users class - Classes held weekly for first 6 months starting
April 2005 - Over 350 staff members trained
17Training for All (cont.)
- About 75 took the Power Users class
- Use it or lose it Designer access removed
after 120 days - Only a handful outside District IS still have
Designer access
18Principle 4 Dont ignore the details
19Details to think about
- How to communicate to your Argos Users?
- List Serve sign-up is part of the account
creation process - Will auto-updates work in your environment?
- Locked-down PCs cant install new CAB files
- How will you do security?
- Our approach Mirror Banner Security as much as
possible - Much of the data in Banner (validation tables,
catalog, schedule) doesnt need to be locked down - How can you leverage Schedule and Delivery?
