Background
  • Smoke-free legislation 26 March 2006
  • Commitment to review exemption in designated
    rooms in psychiatric hospitals and psychiatric
    units
  • Mental Health and Tobacco Working Group
  • Study commissioned by NHS Health Scotland
  • New Scottish Government announced its plan to
    consult on how to achieve smoke-free services
  • NHS Health Scotland, ASH Scotland and STCA tasked
    with developing the consultation

  • Service user and staff involvement in the
    consultation process are crucial to future policy
    implementation
  • Opportunity to inform Scottish Governments
    future action on protecting people from the
    harmful effects of second-hand smoke
