Overview

• Leeward Auto Recycling is an used auto parts
  company
• Does not use a database system, strictly paper
  and pen
• Over 300 cars on lot, each carrying numerous
  parts to sell
• Also sells whole cars that were previously stolen
  or in a wreck

• Designed for owner, Michael Cunningham
• All inventory is stored in owners mind
• Needed a database system to manage inventory,
  generate performance reports, and internal
  management

Requirements Elicitation

• Met with owner, Michael Cunningham to discuss
  problems
• Huy Van also worked at LAR for 7 years and saw
  many problems
• Required that all inventory be stored on a
  database system so all employees can look
• Mr. Cunningham wanted to evaluate his employees
  productivity in sales and outside labor

• User friendly interface so anybody could use it
• Generate reports on product performance
• Track all shipping orders

Design

• Simple GUI for simple people
• Easy navigation so user does not get lost
• Eye friendly colors and design
• Design of database and relations was the most
  difficult part

Implementation/Tuning

• System has been installed at LAR
• All employees are currently using the system for
  testing
• Still using paper and pen
• Searching needed to be tuned
• Order form needed to be more simple and less
  cluttered
• Generation of reports needed to be more readable

Testing

• Testing done by group first
• Testing was done by owner, sales employees, and
  outside employees
• Nailed most of concerns for a system such as
  inventory management and reports
• Testing was done very frequently to follow user
  requirements
• Still in testing phase

Challenges

• Convincing owner to adopt new system
• Starting from scratch
• Company not computer savvy, including owner
• Gathering user requirements
• Group management

Results

• Mr. Cunningham now appreciates IT
• LAR now has something to work with
• User friendly interface, everybody was able to
  use it
• Able to pinpoint exact requirements before design
  and implementation
• Group came together to finish project

Conclusion

• Project was a success, to a certain extent
• Owner was very pleased
• Future work needed
• Include pictures
• More functions such as graphical layout of yard
• More reports on sales
• Presentable to sell business
