AP Course Audit Why
  • In late 2004,
  • College Board membership councils requested an
    AP Course Audit, effective for courses that will
    be labeled AP in the 2007-08 academic year.

    development expectations
  • Encourage administrators to support teacher

  • Preserve the value of the AP name for colleges

  • Spring 2005 Course Audit draft plan presented to
    GAAC and AAC.
  • June 2005 Feb 2006 Course Audit draft
    circulated to members for feedback and revision

    10,000 AP teachers, principals, superintendents,
    school counselors, department chairs, and college
    faculty
  • September 2005 Course Audit drafts circulated to
    20,000 principals and district officials
  • November 2005 Course Audit drafts circulated to
    state officials and entities

AP Course Audit How will it work?
  • Schools submit a one-page AP Course Audit form
    and syllabus for each AP teacher, signed by the
    AP teacher and either the principal or department
    chair
  • License is granted to label the course AP
  • Ledger of schools with official, qualifying AP
    courses will be distributed with AP Exam grades
    to all colleges and universities
  • Schools do not need to complete the Course Audit
    to order and administer AP Exams

    awareness of requirements
  • February 2006
  • Final version of AP Course Audit forms for

  • AP Course Audit materials due for 2007-08 course
    authorizations
  • Audit form and syllabus

  • September 1, 2006 - September 1, 2007
  • Approximately three months after submitting AP
    Course Audit materials, schools receive a legal
    agreement authorizing use of the AP designation
    on qualifying courses for the 2007-08 academic
    year
  • July 2008
  • List of all schools authorized to use the AP
    course designation with names of the courses
    authorized at each school sent with AP Grade
    Reports

    their students scores are distributed vs. the
    global population
  • Instructions for reading and interpreting the

  • Student performance on multiple-choice and
    free-response sections
  • Gray bars represent the global group, divided
    evenly into fourths based on performance
  • Black bars show the percentage of a schools
    students who fall into each fourth
  • If the local score distribution is comparable to
    that of the global population, expect to see
    students distributed evenly across the fourths
  • Grouping of students in the higher or lower
    fourths indicates higher or lower performance
    than the total population
