2
What is Advertising?
  • Advertising is the promotion of a product or
    good.
  • Companies usually use commercials, songs, buses
or billboards etc. to advertise their product.

3
What is Propaganda?
  • Advertisers may use propaganda to make the
product seem better than it actually is.
  • Propaganda is when advertisers may lie to you or
make something seem way better than it actually
    is.

4
Who are advertisers targeting?
  • Advertising targets these age groups
  • 18-34
  • 18-49
  • 35-54
  • 55

5
Advertising Targets
  • When companies advertise products, they always
target specific age groups. Some products are not
    of interest to everyone.
  • Ex Kona probably sells from the age of ten to
the age of thirty. They target these age groups
because when you are ten you start to ride bikes
without training wheels and when you are thirty
    you stop extreme riding.

6
How long is the average commercial?
  • The average commercial is 30 seconds long.
  • People will pay more attention to a shorter
    commercial than a long commercial.

7
Cartoon Characters
  • Cartoon characters help kids identify with
products. If you see the characters on cereal
boxes you will remember the commercial and want
    the cereal.
  • ExTony the Tiger sells cereal

8
Weasel words
  • Weasel words often try to confuse you or hide the
    truth.
  • ExNew and improved cereal

9
Amazing toys.
  • Toys can walk, talk, fly,and even have emotions in
    commercials.
  • Ex Barbie can live on her beach, talk ,drive
cars, and walk, which is not what you get with the
    Barbie.

10
Excitement
  • They make the toy look exciting with lights,
music and a real life setting. In reality the toy
doesn't come with all of the lights and music.
  • ExBAT-MAN toys dont come with the settings on
    the commercial.

11
Star power
  • Advertisers use stars to make products seem
better because it will make you think that you
    will be like the star.
  • ExMichael Jordan sells Nike shoes, and Michael
    Jordan also sells Mcdonalds food.

12
Analysis of a product
  • Cheese whiz
  • The slogan is
  • You know you want it !
  • The commercial for Cheese Whiz makes it seem like
you cant live without Cheese Whiz.
  • The advertising techniques that they used were
bandwagonthey make it seem like everyone is
    buying it.
