  • The Protestant Ethics
  • Weber claims Dedication to and pride in one's
work, is inevitably a highly productive attitude.
The Calvinist ethic of "godliness" through the
humble dedication to one's beruf (calling/
    duty/task), meant economic productivity was
    consequently higher in Protestant communities.
  • Conclusion
  • Webers definition of capitalism is the triumph
    of rationality over tradition.

Money and ethics in commercial terms
  • We could make more money by selling billboards
and advertising out there. But we think in the
long term we would make less because television
would turn around and say we are now like any
other sports event in the world.

based on the principles that have endured since
the first TV transmission in 1937.
  • The fees paid by International Media Sources are
crucial to the Championships as they contribute
to the surplus created each year.
  • Equally as important is the clubs aim to expose
Wimbledon to the largest audience possible.

better every year for all the key people
involved, the players and the spectators.
  • Tim Phillips, Chairman of the club and the
    championship.
  • It means a lot to me and a lot to the
players. We want to get closer and closer
equality across the board, in every area of life,
so what we can walk side-by-side with men.
  • Billie Jean King, Winner of the championship

CONCLUSION
  • The dedication to and the pride of Wimbledon is
    obvious.
  • This attitude leads to productive activities in
terms of commercialization and modernization of
    the tournament.
  • Protestants ethics are applied by the Management
of Wimbledon but the commercialisation is
developing in a moderate, humble way and against
the statement of Max Weber, not at the total
    expense of tradition.
