2Today we will read Mufaros Beautiful Daughters.
It is an African folktale. Folktales are stories
that are heard and remembered. They are passed
down from one generation to another by word of
mouth.
3- The main characters are as follows
- Mufaro means happy man.
- Manyara means ashamed.
- Nyoka means snake.
- Nyasha means mercy.
- The characters names are from the Shona
- language.
4The setting of this story takes place in
Zimbabwe Africa.
5The learner will be able to differentiate between
a Folk tale and a Fairy tale. A Fairy tale is a
subgenre of folk tales. Fairy tales involve some
element of magic, and good always triumph over
evil. One important aspect to remember about a
fairy tale is that a fairy appears in this type
of tale.
