Key projects in 2006 Projects revolved mainly
around patient awareness programmes, with
lectures by doctors and patient partners,
highlighting the importance of early diagnosis
and current treatment of conditions like
rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis,
osteoporosis, gout and systemic lupus
erythematosus. NATIONAL ACTIVITIES DURING
2005 Action Summary Activities included lectures,
workshops, teaching of doctors About the early
diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, negotiations
with medical insurance companies regarding
re-imbursement for biologics in rheumatoid
arthritis. Additional activities related to
documenting serious injuries related to motor
vehicle and other accidents. Physiotherapy
departments carried out activities emphasising
the problem of backache. Chiropractic Association
emphasised their role in management of
musculoskeletal pain Impact Lectures and
seminars were carried out in many communities and
health centres across the country. Many
professional and lay people attended the meeting.

Development This will revolve around establishing
statistics of disability due to musculoskeletal
diseases, resources available to patients with
disability in the workplace, impact of alcohol
and other lifestyle activities contributing to
chronic disability, early introduction of
biologics in the treatment of RA, increased
government involvement in addressing
disability-related issues.
