Goals

• Using T-Motes and laptop to turn a home into a
  smart home.
• Tasks such as turning off lights when leaving
  rooms and closing doors.
• Security includes entry detection. Automatic
  Locking of doors when occupant leaves.
• GUI to facilitate easy user interaction.

Challenges

• Getting the Serial Forwarder Protocol working
  (No Documentation available).
• Getting the Servo Controller working properly
  using the serial port.
• Integrating the Servo Controller and Serial
  Forwarder with the GUI.
• Finishing the project on Time.

First Step

• Initial Steps were taken to setup up a bare bones
  system
• System to detect a object and relay it to base
  station.
• The base station on receiving an object present
  message should move the servos.

Subsequent Steps

• Base Station
• Implement Serial Forwarder Protocol in .NET
• Implement Servo Controller software in .NET
• Develop GUI in .NET
• Motes
• Add Temperature/Humidity to the sensor motes.
  Periodically send data every 10 seconds.
• Implement user selectable key broadcast mode.

Motes

• Three Types of Motes
• Base Mote
• Sensor Mote
• Key Mote

Base Mote

• Forwards all data it receives from the Sensor
  motes and Key Mote to the Serial Port.
• The Serial Forwarder forwards the received data
  to a TCP Port

Sensor Motes

• Light Sensor used to detect a presence of an
  object.
• Periodically transmits the temperature and
  humidity information to the base mote.

Key Mote

• Allows user to press a button and open the doors.
• Setting into automatic mode automatically opens
  doors when person is in the proximity of the
  door.

• Home Automation
• How long the light to remain on after the
  occupant leaves the house (similar to car
  lights).
• Automatically turn on outside light when an
  object is detected.

• How long doors to remain open before
  automatically closing.
• Automatic door opening or allow for user key
  press.

• Allows to set which COM Port being used for the
  Servo Controller.
• Change the port number used for the serial
  forwarder.

Future Improvements

• Use better sensors for detecting object.
• Allow controlling of windows.
• Develop a web based version of the GUI. (Allowing
  remote access).
• Controlling of temperature using a thermostat.
