Story behind the baseline
  • Offender profile male, 15 19 yrs
  • ASB and offending is linked alcohol / substance
    misuse
  • Overrepresentation of black and minority ethnic
    young people (Asian 4.5, Black 9.2)
  • Early intervention with 8 13 yr olds is
    effective in reducing progression to ASB
  • Programmes need to offer a developmental element
    alongside diversionary opportunities

    access in outdoor locations or indoor to a

  • Move current activity to where young people are
  • Link to volunteering opportunities for young
    people after sustained involvement at PAYP
    provision (link with V, Positive Futures, SoLO,
    Sustain)

Off the Wall
  • Staff working when ASB takes place maybe up to
    midnight
  • Risk / protective factor training for all staff
    delivering PAYP so that they can identify most at
    risk, increasingly criminogenic activity and
    signpost to appropriate services

What young people said ..
  • Need for outdoor, mobile provision that can move
    to where we are.
  • Personal and social development is important to
    give us the chance to learn about the results of
    our action and think about safety.
  • Misuse of alcohol is often as a reason for
    getting into trouble.
  • Peer pressure, gangs and wanting to appear cool
    was also significant.
  • Making new friends and having the chance to spend
    time with existing friends is important to all
    ages and abilities.
