• Leles is a small village located in Southeast
  Slovakia. In historical records the village was
  first mentioned in 11 century.
• The area of the village is part of the
  East-Slovakian Lowland. From the east the lowland
  is bordered by the state of Ukraine, from the
  north by the Polonium Carpathian Mountains.
• It is the geological bed of this region and makes
  it rich with willows, alders, poplars, elm and
  ash trees. These are rare and valuable plants.
• The closest neighbor of Leles is the village of
  Kapona. Northway from Leles is the city of Velké
  Kapuany. Although its relatively close, its
  located in a different district of the state. It
  belongs to Michalovce rather than Trebiov. That
  is the district town where Leles belongs. Another
  city near the village is Královský Chlmec,
  cultural centre of the Hungarians living in the
  area of Medzibodroie. The western neighbor of
  the village is Polany.
• Near the village is a lake called Tice.

• They cultivate wheat, potatoes, grapes, etc. Most
  houses breed they own animals cattle, poultry
  and pigs.
• Cattles breeding is also the profile of the
  largest venture of Leles. In the village there
  are 9 shops, small groceries mostly.
• The village has also a culture house, 3 bars and
  a municipal office. In the centre of the village
  there is a small park with a monument.
• There are two churches in Leles, a catholic and a
  protestant. In spite of that the inhabitants of
  the village denominate other religions as well.

• Around the lake are woods with leafy trees and
  bushes. Its a shelter for animals such as
  rabbits, foxes, pheasants, etc. The water of the
  lake is also the home of numerous kinds of
  fishes.
• The climate of the region is marked by a strong
  continental influence, although we may expect
  changes in the very near future to Mediterranean.
  
• Even now, with its climate Medzibodroie is the
  second warmest region of Slovakia following the
  Danube lowland. In this area the sun shines 2200
  hours a year on the average.
• Leles has 1900 inhabitants 1006 women and 894
  men. Sadly 44 percent of them are unemployed,
  forced to live from social aid and season works.
• 26 percent of the villagers live from
  agricultural activities.

• Rich historical, cultural, and revolutionary
  traditions of our people are proved and
  manifested by modern exhibitions saved in the
  museums. The decorative element was thought of
  during new housing quarters quires, parks, areas
  in front of the miles, administration buildings
  and organizations are decorates by monumental
  sculptures, relief s, ornamental sculptors
  created by our prominent sculpt.
• Up to the present the people occupy themselves
  primarily with agriculture. In some villages the
  farmers specialize in vegetable and tobacco
  growing and the like. In winter time home-weaving
  of flax, kemp, and woolens fabrics is a wide
  spread activity in many of our village
  households.
• The national costume of the northern districts
  differs from that worn in the south. A costume
  that the people of Zemplén wore during an
  ordinary working day varied from the one worm on
  special festivity occasions.

• Its hard to tell a proper prediction about the
  future of the village. It is clear that the
  strong agricultural traditions will not be enough
  to keep the community in the footsteps of more
  prosperous areas of Slovakia.
• Some improvements may be achieved with the
  development of the village tourism, what is a
  popular and interesting alternative for city
  dwellers.
• They may enjoy a weekend in a friendly village
  instead of expensive hotels. The traditions and
  relics of the whole Medzibodroie may also
  help in this matter.
• For example the churches of our region are truly
  beautiful. I think they deserve more attention
  from the viewpoint of tourism as well. At this
  time I dont see any other way out, but the
  development of tourism.
• I hope that my lovely village will find a good
  solution for the upcoming challenges of our age.
