• Sustainable palm oil production is comprised of
  legal, economically viable, environmentally
  appropriate and socially beneficial management
  and operations
• New plantings .since adoption of these criteria
  have not replaced primary forest or any area
  containing one or more High Conservation Values.
• No new plantings are established on local
  peoples land without their free, prior and
  informed consentcompensation negotiated
  agreements

• Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Best practices by growers and millers
• Environmental responsibility and conservation of

can we do?

• Watch for projects that may be using it to meet
  renewable energy targets
• Beware of palm oil bio-diesel as additive to
  petro-diesel products
• Ensure that any renewable energy or
  sustainable energy targets include standards to
  protect marginal producer communities
  ecological integrity in producing areas
• Research to improve production MUST include
  analysis of ecological and social impacts
