1
Presentation of Fixing Africa book and movement
2
Fixing Africa is based on three facts
  • All 53 African countries are struggling. The
denial must end so the recovery can start.
  • Individually African men and women have shown
that they can perform at a global level in any
    field, anytime and anywhere.
  • New ideas and bold actions are required to
    translate individual achievements into collective
    progress.

3
Who benefits from the existence of weak countries
in Africa?
  • The leaders and their entourage.
  • A few businessmen who benefit from the absence
    of rules.
  • The management of international aid
organizations and large NGOs who receive generous
    salaries without much performance accountability.

4
Who pays the bill?
  • African populations, the youth in particular,
who in their vast majority obtain only poverty
    and injustice.
  • The tax payers of developed countries who are
    increasingly asked to contribute.

5
Why is it time to act?
  • New challenges will appear in the 21th century
that will completely overwhelm weak countries
    and their outdated leadership.
  • African Union summits are paralyzed by a futile
debate every six months between the proponents
of an immediate establishment of the United
States of Africa (led by the Libyan leader
Gaddafi) and those who favor a more gradual and
largely cosmetic integration process (led by
    South Africa).
  • Most African countries have had 50 years to
show their viability as stand-alone sovereign
nations. The results are more worthy of a low
    profile than massive celebrations.

6
What are the political objectives?
  • Truly sovereign Super States, built and led by
Africans for the security and prosperity of
    African populations.
  • The integration of weak and poorly governed
    states into viable federal entities.
  • The end of the illusion of sovereignty (red
carpet sovereignty) where its all form and no
substance, the real decisions being taken in
    Washington, Brussels or Paris.

7
What are the socio-economic objectives?
  • Build Super States with internal markets having
critical mass and capable of attaining global
    leadership positions in several strategic
    categories.
  • Provide better understanding and a new image to
the rest of the world, who largely view Africa
as one poor and desperate country.
  • Offer African youth a vision giving them the
hope of achieving developed world standards of
living in their lifetime and without leaving
    their country of birth.

8
How to achieve the best chances of success by
2030?
  • By creating 4 Super States in Africa around 4
anchor countries who have enough economic power
and population size NIGERIA, EGYPT, KENYA and
SOUTH AFRICA (the 4th Super State is renamed
KONGO because from a marketing point of view, you
cannot create a brand with a generic name like
    South Africa).
  • By using the power of modern communications
(Internet and mobile telephony) to build an
active membership base in all 53 African
countries, as well as in other countries with a
large presence of the diaspora. This collective
intelligence, wisely managed, will generate more
results than any group of experts in the world.

9
Why this initiative deserves your support?
  • It is really time to expand the debate beyond
the usual suspects (World Bank/IMF, African
Union, UN, global NGOs, a few academics).
Sincere people from the aid and development
communities will surely welcome constructive new
    inputs.
  • The current system doesnt give any roadmap or
calendar for getting Africa out of the vicious
circle of debt and international aid.
  • African leaders appear addicted to the current
    international aid system. Their newfound
enthusiasm for China is further proof of that.
With all due respect to our leaders, it brings to
mind the image of an addict who is happy to have
found a new, more flexible drug dealer.

10
How can you help at this stage?
  • By sending this presentation and/or the e-book
(available for free download at fixingafrica.com)
to your friends and to your key contacts media,
    forward-thinking political and business leaders,
    artists and creative people...
  • By 31st December 2009, we aim to reach 1
million readers for the book and at least 1,000
active members in each of the 53 African
countries as well as other countries with a large
    presence of the diaspora.
