  • This is a DESA task

No DESA in post?
  • Several Districts do not have a dedicated DESA
  • Some of these Districts have others undertake
    parts of DESA role, ie, DESC, ESLs, GSLs
  • We have found that Districts with DESAs usually
    have a Mi-Mo strategy
  • Need to ensure DESA role is carried out by
    someone or a team of people in order for Mi-Mo to
    work

Need to be seen and heard
  • ES need to have a good profile in the District
  • good, active, balanced programme
  • media profile?
  • Send details of programmes to Troops and to
    potential ES
  • Visit all Troops in the District

  • Send birthday card at aged 13 years
  • may be too early, try 13.5yrs
  • Try mail-outs at specific times of year
  • September/January/March
  • send joining pack
  • details of ESUs, programmes, personnel etc

  • Make new recruits feel welcome
  • Make sure they get the opportunity to integrate
    into the Unit
  • Make sure the programme caters for all members
  • Have a welcome pack and copies of the current
    Unit programme to hand out
