College Grants
2
What are College Grants
  • College Grants are provided to a variety of
individuals so that lack of money doesnt stop
    them from pursuing education.
  • These also help displaced workers who need to get
retrained in order to re-join the workforce and
students enrolled in a post baccalaureate
    teaching certificate program.

3
Requirements to Receive Funding
  • The basic requirement for this is that a person
wishing to apply needs to prove their financial
    need.
  • A great aspect about this kind of funding is that
there is no obligation on part of the person
    receiving it to repay it.
  • Also, applicants dont need to have a great
credit to get these grants and there are no
    application fees.

4
Funding at the State and Local Level
  • Funding for education is also available at the
State level. Many states have minority funded
grants, low income and disadvantage student
grants and grants for students pursuing a high
demand field such as medical or education.
  • You need to check with various schools about the
opportunities they have. A schools financial air
office usually has this information and can
provide detailed information to a candidate
    regarding the same.

5
Types of Education Grants

awarded for a specific purpose. A description of

  • Undergrad students holding Pell Grants and having
great financial need can get this grant.
  • Students can get 100 to 4,000 each school year
depending on the student's financial need, the
college they are attending and other school
    financial aid policies.

8
Academic Competitiveness Grant
  • This supplemental grant is awarded to first and
second year students who demonstrate academic
merit and were also awarded a Federal Pell Grant.
  • Students can get 750 for their first year of
study and another 1,300 for their second year.

9
National SMART Grant
  • The National Science and Mathematics Access to
Retain Talent (SMART) Grant is a supplementary
grant awarded to science, math, computer,
technology and engineering students who are in
their third or fourth year of study.
  • This 4,000 grant is awarded to students who are
    eligible for Pell grants.
