Title: Medicaid Discrimination

1
Medicaid Discrimination?
2
For years, senior citizens have faced both the 5
year look back period and the Medicaid Spend Down
rule
3
Seniors 65 and older who are disabled must spend
down their life savings to 2,000 (or 4,000
for couples who are both in Nursing Homes) in
order to qualify for Medicaid
4
The reason for the 5 year look back was to ensure
no one was hiding assets in order to qualify for
Medicaid
5
As part of the Affordable Care Act, over the
past 90 days there have been a massive 3.9
million Americans who are not elderly, disabled
or low-income who qualified for Medicaid as part
of the new healthcare laws
6
They are not subject to the five year look back
period
7
They do not have to spend down their assets
8
THE REASONS ARE TROUBLING
9
There are fears that by eliminating the
spend-down requirement for seniors only an influx
would flood the program and send overall costs
soaring
10
The justification for not applying the five year
look back is because supporters say those who are
qualifying outside of the traditional parameters
have no assets anyway
11
Its not worth the time to expand those two
rules to the non-elderly
12
States are now facing big problems as they sort
out the ones who must adhere to the law and
those who are not held to the same standards
13
Fears are the entire Medicaid system will buckle
under the pressure
14
What ultimately happens remains to be seen but if
you are concerned about your coverage, contact us

your situation
15
ONE THING IS CERTAIN
16
There are bound to be long term repercussions
