• Dust-mop or use a microfiber duster to marble
  floor cleaning or dust marble counters frequently
  to keep dirt from building up in the first place.

• Wipe up spills immediately to keep them from
  sinking into the stone and possibly leaving a
  stain.

• Use the least amount of water necessary --- wring
  the cloth or mop as tightly as possible before
  use. Dry the marble immediately after mopping to
  prevent a residue.

• Mix a tablespoon of castile soap or
  vegetable-based dish soap with a quart of warm
  water and wipe or mop the surface to remove more
  serious dirt. Rinse with warm, clean water and
  dry immediately.

• Have your marble professionally honed and buffed
  with wool to maintain its luster and
  stain-resisting capabilities.

• A chamois cloth is made from a soft fabric that
  can be used to dry and shine your marble at the
  same time. This is the gentlest way to shine your
  marble.

• For deeper scratches, try rubbing the area
  lightly with very fine-grain sandpaper. Do not
  use course-grain sandpaper, as this can create
  divots in your marble.
