The Interesting Name

• Like many different creatures, ant species tend
  to have some pretty interesting names. These are
  no different. Theyre called acrobats because
  of a specific behavior they exhibit. If you
  disturb them, theyll raise their abdomen up over
  their thorax and head, creating a look that is
  reminiscent of an acrobat.

• Wondering what these little guys look like?
  Heres an overview.
• 1/10th to 1/8th of an inch long.
• Two segmented section, dubbed a petiole, that
  attached to the front part of their abdomen.
• Abdomen is heart-shaped when seen from above.
• Color variance ranges from light reddish brown to
  a darker brown or black.

• In their natural environment, their diet greatly
  differs from what it might be indoors.
• Outside, theyll eat the aphids honeydew as well
  as other dead insects they may find along the
  way.
• If they come inside, though, theyre going to be
  looking for sweet treats or those with higher
  protein contents.

• Acrobat ants would love to move into your home,
  if for no other reason than you have lots of good
  nesting spots. Theyll be happy to take up
  residence in a wall void or your baseboards.
