What were doing is making our face-to-face
sessions richer through the introduction of EOL,
and thats where the blended (mixed) learning
comes in, he saysFor example, the Introduction
to Project Management program offered by EEA used
to require people to attend a workshop for a
total of four days.

Its now going to consist of online modules and a
one-day (face-to-face) session.So instead of
four days of face-to-face training, engineers
will spend one day away from their office but
theyll do the other five modules online, at
times that suit them, says Polley.

Our approach will be to still use face-to-face
learning for heightened or rich learning, as we
call it, where youve got to get together and
talk with others to solve problems.That way,
by integrating both learning styles, youre much
more cost-efficient and effective.

The EOL website will initially offer some
500-plus learning resources and the idea is to
offer general, as well as technical topics, so
that every visit to the site will be useful for
engineers.Our plan at this stage is to add
something like 10 or 20 topics a week and to keep
doing that, Polley says.
