  • Teenage is a difficult phase, where one has to
deal with a lot of emotional, psychological and
social pressure. Some hold on to their ground
while the others give in to the pressure.
However, there are certain factors that
eventually push the teens to become an addict or
    abuser.
  • The major factors resulting in teen abuse and
    addiction

Peer Pressure
  • Friends or classmates might pressurize them into
trying a drug. Moreover, the need to fit in or
being accepted is strong among teens, hence they
might try drugs just to show off or appear cool
    in front of their friends.

4
Low Self Esteem and Depression
  • Teens who suffer from low self-esteem or
depression are more likely to choose drugs and
alcohol as an escape it allows them to get away
from the harsh realities of the world and enjoy a
    state of euphoria.

5
Loss of a Loved One
  • Losing a loved one can cause a lot of pain and
grief, be it a friend, sibling, parent or
grandparent. Teens can harbor those feelings of
loss for years and eventually turn to drugs and
    alcohol to overcome the pain.

Change in Schools or Location
  • Teenagers, who are forced to leave a school or
neighborhood where they have lived all their
life, can experience a myriad of emotions.
Entering a new school and trying to make new
friends is not easy they may have trouble
adapting to their new surroundings and as a
result end up becoming withdrawn or depressed.

Coping with a broken relationship
  • Ending of relationship with a good friend or
beloved can emotionally break a teen and may also
push them towards drug and alcohol. If the
situation goes unresolved, over time use can lead
    to abuse and addiction.

  • Teenagers are very sensitive and prone to
breakdowns they need a lot of support,
understanding and care from their loved ones to
keep them strong and away from all kinds of abuse
and addiction. Parents should educate their kids
about the ill-effects of alcohol and drugs.
