What is CNA?
  • A CNA or a certified nurse assistant refers
    to an individual who operates under the
    supervision of a licensed practical nurse (LPN)
    to assist in delivering healthcare services,
    providing bedside care and perform simple nursing
    procedures.

Roles of CNA
  • Skilful repositioning of bedridden patients to
    avoid the development of bedsores.
  • Answering all patients call-for-help signals.
  • Feeding patients orally, or through a gastric
    tube when the need arises.

  • Observation of patients wellness, vital signs,
    food intake, fluid charts and monitor alarms and
    reporting all this data to the nursing staff.
  • Helping patients to walk, move in and out of bed,
    exercise and adapt to post-operative states.
  • Transportation of patients to operation rooms or
    radiology units using stretchers or wheelchairs.

CNA certification training
  • To become a certified nursing assistant, in
    addition to holding a high school diploma, you
    will need to take an exam for a CNA
    certification.
  • Most candidates pass the exam after completing a
    12 week certified nursing assistant certification
    program which is offered at almost every college
    and healthcare facility.

  • The CNA education programs emphasize on clinical
    anatomy and physiology, basic nursing skills,
    life support, safety and hygiene, infection
    control and nutrition.
  • Students also should attend to training sessions
    on real time work environments.
  • The training regulations of the federal nurse
    aide state that a certified nursing assistant
    training program is approved only if it provides
    50 hours of theory tuition besides 100 hours of
    training that is supervised by clinical personnel.
