Title: What is Hysteroscopy?

1
What is Hysteroscopy?
  • Hysteroscopy is a procedure through which a
doctor can get a clear view of uterus in order to
carry out a better diagnosis and cure any disease
accordingly. It is basically used to know the
    causes of abnormal bleeding.

2
  • The procedure is performed by using a thin
lighted tube which is carefully inserted into the
vagina for examining the cervix and the uterus.
It can be both diagnostic as well as operative.

3
View Through a Hysteroscope
  • A special liquid is commonly used to widen the
uterine cavity for proper examination. The below
given video is of a normal uterus during
hysteroscopy. The view is obtained by attaching a
light weight camera to the hysteroscope.

4
  • The time it takes can range from five minutes to
even an hour. This depends whether it is
operative or diagnostic. Some women can face a
little discomfort during the procedure but it is
bearable. Still some candidates prefer to be
sedated or even have a general anesthesia during
    hysteroscopy.
  • The view of the uterine cavity varies at
different time during the cycle. At the specific
time period when there is much shedding of the
lining the view is usually unclear.
